Judge Napolitano: An Open Letter To John Boehner – Stand Up for The People!

In an open letter to Mr. Boehner read by the Judge on his program, he began by saying, "Dear Mr. Speaker, when the Founder's of the Constitutional Convention in 1787 created the House of Representatives, it was fashioned to act as the voice of the people within the institutional checks and balances of the federal government. That's why the entire House faces re-election every two years. That's why constitutionally; you don't even have to be a member of Congress to serve as Speaker. And that's why the Constitution allows for thousands of members of the House for our current population. It is the people's House and the people spoke last November; they cried out against a government completely out of control."
Napolitano continued, "After President George W. Bush grew the US debt by seven trillion dollars in eight years in office and President Obama added four trillion in just two years in office, the people cried out against Big-Government policies that are sabatoging the economy and taking over our lives. And because they cried out, you are no longer just John Boehner from Ohio, you are now the second in line to succeed to the presidency. You are the Speaker for the House of Representatives. Mr. Speaker ... Americans do not want to see the debt ceiling raised. They are sick and tired of paying interest on borrowed money, money borrowed in their name."
And the good Judge is just getting started …

"More debt today against promised cuts tomorrow." - And they're going to spend the money from those promised cuts today.
I remember the Medicare "Catastrophic Illness" plan signed by Pres. Reagan in 1988 and rescinded by Congress and Pres. Bush the Elder in 1989. In 1988, the pols all patted themselves on the back for doing something wonderful for people with catastrophic illnesses. When it went into effect and people over 65 found they would be the only ones paying for it, they were furious. I remember the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committtee's limousine being pummeled by "old" people. I wonder if Reagan and the '88 Congress booked a "savings" to the government from that plan, maybe a savings on Medicaid. Thats how they operate.

I think the Judge summed it up very well. Now the nation just needs the Mouthpiece to listen.

It's more complicated than that, charlesfrith. MUCH more complicated. Are you suggesting that the rest of the government, all bureaucrats and all the 10 other departments (EPA, Education,Health & Welfare, Commerce, Agriculture, Energy, etc., etc., etc.) aren't in need of a huge red pencil? What about the entitlements (Social Security, Medicare, VA, etc.)
Yes, the simple answer is stop spending more than you take in. The real answer is start living within the Constitution. Had that been operative for the last 80 years or so, we wouldn't be in the financial mess we find ourselves in today. How did that happen? The people voted in the scoundrels who have done this to us, and continue to vote them in!

Sadly, Speaker Boehner failed in his opportunity to "stop it" & "do the right things" that the voters asked him to do in the last election. But as a "professional politician", it was preordained that he would chose to postpone the pain so as to get re-elected, thereby condemning us all to MORE PAIN later.
Boehner represents the "right wing" of the ONE PARTY ("big government") SYSTEM (the Democrats are the "left wing") that now runs the USA. The people don't really have a choice for a "small government" major party to vote for.
In the end, I can only hope that good ideas (sound money based on something of intrinsic value & no central banking monopoly) will trump bad ideas (debt based fiat money, big government central banking). But that is something possible in the future, in the long run. We are headed for "debtageddon" & financial collapse, in the short run. Sadly, we started out this nation on the right path, and chose to stray from the right path to go down a path to our own financial destruction. Maybe, the second time around, we will have learned our lessons better and not stray from the right path.
