FreedomFest
FreedomFest is the world's largest gathering of free minds and every July thousands of free-market advocates and libertarians travel to this conference in Las Vegas. Dr. Mark Skousen founded the conference and is the producer. Tami Holland is the conference coordinator and their working relationship began in 2001 when Mark Skousen was named president of the Foundation for Economic Education in 2001. Their first conference in 2002 was called The FEE National Convention and over 700 freedom advocates attended.
After Mark left FEE, the conference was sponsored for a few years by the conservative Young America's Foundation but with falling attendance and interest, Mark Skousen and Tami Holland again teamed up to run the conference starting in 2007. Since that time, the attendance, down to a few hundred when sponsored by YAF, has risen to several thousand and more for this annual event.
FreedomFest is an annual festival where "free minds meet" to celebrate "great books, great ideas, and great thinkers" in an open-minded society. It is independent, non-partisan, and not affiliated with any organization or think tank. Something quite unique about FreedomFest is their "big tent" philosophy and mission to bring together speakers and attendees from the broad freedom of the Freedom movement. They welcome libertarians of all philosophies, traditional conservatives, constitutionalists, free-market advocates and Austrian economics advocates. The organizers also invite the "best and the brightest" from around the world to talk, strategize, socialize and celebrate liberty. FreedomFest is open to all and is purely egalitarian, where speakers, attendees and exhibitors are treated as equals.
The event covers far more than the freedom philosophy and financial topics with books, art, music, film and drama on a broad range of subjects including science, philosophy, economics, health, sports, technology, business, religion, law and politics included in the program. Their annual debates on a number of subjects bring together freedom advocates and the opposition to debate important issues of the day. In 2011, they also created The Anthem Film Festival to showcase regular length and movie shorts with a freedom theme.
In addition, FreedomFest sponsors an annual free-market economics conference in the Bahamas to compete with the monetary elites who control the annual Davos World Economic Forum. FreedomFest hosts an annual fall cruise to interesting locations which usually combines financial, history and political topics.
