Who is he: Rory Suchet is an on-air television news announcer for the global news station RT Network, formerly known as Russia Today. Rory Suchet is one of the most identifiable news anchors at RT, although he actually built his career as a radio correspondent before the expansion of broadband internet broadcast capability. Suchet had been a news reporter for CNN Radio for several years before joining the RT staff. He was known in radio for often presenting breaking news stories at critical junctures in recent world history, such as Hurricane Katrina and the Iraqi Invasion.
RT is second to the BBC in viewership in the United States, as well as a leader worldwide. It is a publicly funded Russian-based television station that is focused primarily on an audience from outside Russia and presents contemporary news and current event content, along with sports and weather information. The station is similar in format to the US media outlets who implement a continual news cycle programming.
Background: Rory Suchet may be more often recognized as a member of one of the most famous news and entertainment families from the United Kingdom. His father, John Suchet, had been a news presenter and narrator on special broadcasting events. He was also known as a Beethoven scholar and has been a published author on Beethoven's music. In addition to his special presentation assignments, John Suchet hosted several game shows on British television.
Rory Suchet's mother developed early-onset Alzheimer's Disease in recent years and his father produced and narrated a series of documentaries about the debilitation associated with Alzheimer's Disease and the impact it has on the extended family, as well as the patient. Since his mother's health problems, his father John has chosen a more private life.
In addition to the notoriety of his immediate family, John Suchet's brother, and hence Rory's uncle, is David Suchet. David Suchet has played the lead in Agatha Christie's Poirot for over 60 episodes, which is a very popular crime mystery in Great Britain. Rory's cousin Richard was also a news presenter on various programs for nearly 30 years, retiring in 2004.
Regardless of his family fame, Rory Suchet is clearly making a name for himself with work at RT Network and his extended list of voice-overs and broadcast commercials.
