Russia Will Sell No Gold?

Thursday, October 29, 2009 – by Staff Report

The Russian government said on Tuesday it had postponed its plans to sell up to 50 tonnes of gold this year, after information about the sale was leaked to the market, but the gold market failed to react. "Due to the leak of the information the sale in the reported period and in the reported form will not take place," deputy head of the government agent for precious metals sales, Sergei Gorny, told Reuters. He declined to say when the sale may take place. On Friday, sources told Reuters the government planned to sell 20-50 tonnes of gold -- worth up to $1.7 billion at current prices -- to help plug a budget deficit in the first major sale since the fall of the Soviet Union. The sales from Russia's State Precious Metals and Gems Repository (Gokhran) could account for 0.5 to 1.25 percent of global consumption of the metal, which soared in price to a record of $1,070.40 per ounce on Oct. 14. Gokhran, which traces its history to a decree by Tsar Peter the Great in 1719, holds the Russian state's stocks of precious metals such as gold and palladium and gems such as diamonds. Gold prices were practically unmoved by the postponement, hovering around $1040 per ounce on Tuesday. – Reuters

Dominant Social Theme: Sell it while it's hot?

Free-Market Analysis: In the 1990s, Western central banks played at selling gold to "talk" the price of gold down. One after the other they lined up to microphones with mainstream media logos brandishing their stems to announce their respective central bank sales of gold. It was of course very difficult to tell if these sales were actually intended to occur but they seemed to have the desired effect of keeping gold on the ropes. The price was then in the low US$400s, and it continued to move lower, as we recall. Then some wise leaders in the lineup actually believed in their scripts – Gordon Brown comes to mind – and foolishly sold their nations wealth.

This is one of the reasons that we are sure the price of gold is manipulated – or managed – because we have seen it with our own eyes. We are also aware that the management continues and we are suspicious of the augmentation of the management. We figure what happened with Russia is that greed won out over the instinct to control the price of gold. It is evident even to central bankers these days that if they simply wait they will get a better price.

We think China and Russia may be in on the game because of their behavior recently and also because of the way their central banks have been acting. Is there an alternative to the Western central banking system? We'd like to think so, but both Japan and China – two of the world's biggest economies – have significant dollar assets so we wonder how fast the monetary world is going to change. (We think it will, but not so fast as some do.)

Conclusion: We have no doubt the games will continue as gold and silver rise in price over the next few years and we believe they may well. But as money metals get more expensive, the attacks on them become more difficult to prosecute as well. Not only that but the precious metals sector is becoming more powerful as prices rise – and fiat money remains very weak because it has been so badly managed. We are sure the attacks on gold and silver, too, will continue. We don't anticipate they will be very effective, at least not in the short run.

Great! This is why we are glad for the Bell. You have the needed skills to articulate the source of my own frustration. Seeing it said by someone way more articulate than i will ever be is very soothing to my weary soul like a rock under my feet giving a firm footing as i wade through the slough of despond. Like an oasis in the desert.
you guys should have a convention or something.

Slough of despond ... John Bunyan, The Pilgrim's Progress. Good allusion. Thanks.

Whoa, have you got this right. I have been talking about the goal post idea for years (but I say that while we -- the attacked group, whatever it is, meat eaters, anti-warming "vermin", whatever -- start out from the middle ground to begin with, the pro memes start from and extreme. So we always meet them 3/4 of the way, not halfway. A very important point, because soon there will be a new challenge to move the goal posts and you know where we start then.

Well ... the goal posts always move! Good observation.

Don't think Russia was ever serious ... so you're right in this regard.

FINALLY!

You guys are now in the heart of it, long after many of us have probed the manipulations of the Hegelian Dialectic, you come out with it in a calm, level fashion suited to your publication and the equanimity of your supposedly finacially savvy readers.

I look forward to your calm, level review of the secret societies that Kennedy warned us of, just 10 days before they blew his head-off in Dealey Plaza for even mentioning their existence.

Press-on, do not falter. We need unity as Human Beings, right now, as never before. Their method is to divide us, our salvation lies only in uminty in opposition against them. They are few, we are MANY. They cannot quell the rising chorus of Humanity crying-out against their lash.

That these bloodlines, who inter-breed, in complete opposite to what is excepted practise to produce HEALTHY human beings, have alliegence only to a Dark Agenda for all Humanity, must be shouted from the rooftops, or they will have their way, and the Sheeple will be implanted, herded, and slaughtered for the enrichment and entertainment of "The Elite".

There is no Middle Road. They drew "First Blood" on Humanity so long ago, their evil turmoil fomented AGAINST Humanity on this planet has all but been accepted (marketed) as "Human Nature". It is NOT.

It is THEIR footprints only that we find in the trail of blood leading from one puppeted war to another, the blood of our young, who die believing they fight for Human Freedom on Earth.

They have bred their Humanity away, leaving highly intelligent, murderous beings whose only goal, ever, was to dominate all life on Earth at their whim.

We are at an evolutionary step-up, we cannot shuffle our feet to rise to this reality-we must leap to it, and shut these predators down, or Humanity WILL fall, and never rise again on this Earth.

Glad to see your hat in the ring with the rest of us-not a moment too soon, I might add...

Peace,

In our opinion it is not just abortion but the many laws that have built up around abortion.

Hi Guys As you say this is just another one of a long line of politically correct dictates coming from the elite to the masses. As is the case with global warming and swine flu we should look at who is going to gain most by pretending meat is not suitable for human consumption. In this case the gmo soy industry looms large on the horizon. They are now turning large swathes of Latin America, which were once teeming with healthy free range grass fed cattle, into huge monocultural deserts that require large amounts of pesticides and which destroy the land after just a few years.

This is coming from Monsanto and their friends and is the real reason rain forests sre being chopped down ie. to grow more gmo soy. This Lord Stern guy is just one of their well connected stooges who as you say is trying to make people feel quilty for eating their natural diet. If you want to know the health consequences of eating unfermented soy products go to Click to view link and see the many problems it causes especially to thyroid function which is now endemic in the developed world.

On the swine flu "threat" its interesting to note that Finland has withdrawn their alert status on this flu and cancelled all plans to vaccinate people as they reckon its symptoms are much milder than the normal flu.

This seems very strange untill we find out that Finland does not have any major pharmaceutical manufacturers operating there and possibly their health officials were able to ascess the threat posed realistically. Again the money trail is behind all these witch hunts. Keep up the good work in seeing the big picture behind the facade of the mainstream media. Your insights are one of the first I check everyday and are appreciated.

I gave up eating meat years ago. Involuntarily. The stuff on my plate has no resemblance to the cow I see in a meadow. Like soup in cans, don't look at what is in it, the taste is the same.
Plastic like.

Sorry to hear that.

Gentlemen: I'll be happy to consider giving up eating meat and driving my car...and start eating straw-burgers while taking public transportation........just as soon as I see the likes of George Soros, the Rockefellers, the Summers, the Buffet's, the Gates, the Greenspans, Congress, etc etc doing the same....on a daily basis. That's the day I'll START to consider it.

What ever happened to 'lead by example'? And, have they suggested we use only so many sheets of TP in the bathroom yet, to protect the trees?

What about cutting back on hot sex with my wife? Wouldn't want to steam up the environment too much! Imagine if 150 million couples were creating all that excess 'warming' on a nightly basis...why I don't think the earth could survive. I'm sure it would have a negative impact on TV viewing....too bad for pharmaceutical drug pushers!

No one would be there to watch and buy their drugs, you know the ones that you should take when you're blue or can't sleep, even though they may cause death, seizures, internal bleeding, heart attack, kidney failure, liver failure, etc. etc. etc.......what a sad day that would be....so yes, I expect an edict to come down any day now detailing the environmental hazards of excess "hot sex".

Reply from The Daily Bell

Yes, perhaps sex will come to be seen as a carbon trap.
