Anti-Trump Letter Reveals As Much About Writers as the Candidate They Despise
By Daily Bell Staff - May 30, 2016

Over 450 Writers, Including Stephen King And Michael Chabon, Sign Petition Against Trump … Pulitzer and National Book Critics Circle winners call out Trump’s “nativism and bigotry.”   -Huffington Post

This is an amazing effort considering the many things that writers could complain about when it comes to the US.

But it is Donald Trump that seems to have aroused these writers.

Published on Literary Hub, the petition states, “We, the undersigned, as a matter of conscience, oppose, unequivocally, the candidacy of Donald J. Trump for the Presidency of the United States.”

The letter was signed by Celeste Ng, Lydia Davis, Rick Moody, Rebecca Solnit, Lauren Groff, Jennifer Egan, Anthony Marra, and over 400 others.

The letter concludes as follows:

The rise of a political candidate who deliberately appeals to the basest and most violent elements in society, who encourages aggression among his followers, shouts down opponents, intimidates dissenters, and denigrates women and minorities, demands, from each of us, an immediate and forceful response …

The article in the Huffington Post appends this editor’s note at the bottom of the article:

Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.

It’s hard to tell if HuffPo’s reporting has produced an article or a peroration.

Trump’s candidacy has numerous controversial elements. And he has made many inconsistent statements. But if his anti-war sentiments are lasting and if he continues to emphasize free-markets and low taxes over fedgov activism, he could change the course of the country for the better.

These writers are concerned about Trump, but what about his potential opponent, Hillary Clinton? Over the years, the Clintons have been accused of everything from murder to rape to large-scale drug-dealing and bribe-taking.

And the concentration on a single political figure is itself somewhat puzzling. There are many areas of concern one might mention when it comes to the US.

  • Some 40 million are on food stamps and 100 million are either out-of-work or in non-mainstream, part-time jobs.
  • Serial wars are taking place in the Middle East and Northern Africa that poison entire countries with depleted uranium.
  • The political system generally self-selects incompetent, fearful and “politically correct” leaders.
  • A system of governance is exploited by shadowy controllers that seek evermore aggressive globalism.
  • An increasingly violent and over-armed police force is responsible for break-ins and murders.
  • Public infrastructure nationwide is falling apart.
  • Local, regional and national public service sectors verge on bankruptcy.
  • A monopoly central banking system causes ever-more ruinous business cycles.
  • An irrational, oppressive and unnecessary system of progressive taxation continues to oppress citizens and businesses alike.
  • The mainstream media ignores real issues to focus on areas that reinforce destructive elite priorities.
  • An incompetent and untruthful educational systems produces ignorant, unthinking students.
  • Exploitative and authoritarian intelligence agencies use technology for domestic spying – and worse.
  • A penal industry turns prisoners into slaves and has at any one time some six million individuals involved in the system.

Conclusion: Apparently Trump’s candidacy has galvanized elements of the US writer-class. But their complaints reveal more about them than Trump.

if this many of the “intelligentsia” dislike the fellow, all the more reason to vote for him. it seems to me that those things he is accused of are in fact the actions of his opponents. I dont see trump supporters rioting, fighting cops, or shouting down bernie sanders or the beast that will not be named.

Just goes to show how many can be bought with a few bits of Silver…..The moral demise of the left has finally met its match……Liberal logic strikes again.

Amen to Joe Bob. The above list is not important to them, or at least not as important as perversions. As we trip the light fantastic toward Sodom all they want is approval. When we become completely amoral will they become satisfied? Never!

    • Dimitri Ledkovsky

As the French and Bolshevik Revolutions demonstrated the step immediately following becoming completely amoral is the one up to the guillotine. After that satisfaction there can be no encore and we start all over.

      • WinChll

There have been articles about guillotines on standby in this country.
Whether true or not, the majority of people never even contemplate such a possibility in the 21st century while the Soviet/Moaist terror was not more than 70 years ago.

        • Pilgrim

If there are guillotines on standby, Hiliary commissioned them, not Trump.

  • Jim Johnson

Good to know- I’ll go search out the full list, short of spending a dime with any of them.

  • Judy Cross

Compared to Hilary, Trump is a saint.

As an aside, Pulitzer’s [for writers and reporters], like Obama’s and Gore’s and Kissinger’s Nobel Prizes, are on same leash and are used selectively from time to time to further Oz’s agenda.

The “donor class” has been running this country, and it’s being run into the dirt.

    Donald Trump doesn’t take donations.

    You do the math.

I’d rather have an honest moron running the country than a smart but crooked Hiliary.

  • bailintheboat

I can smell the fear from here. You can imagine that it would give them plenty of novel writing material. Many more people riding on Donald Trump’s coattails, and that 13 point list should spark a few creative ideas too.

  • TimeToWakeUpAmerica

After reading this article, I may actually go out and cast a “vote” for Trump!

Look, if he causes this much ire from the Western-International-Central-Banker-Financed-Leftists-“Liberals”-Socialists-Communists (AND “Neo-Cons/ZIONISTS), then, hey, Donald Trump MUST BE “ONTO” SOMETHING!

I found the following article, equally revealing about those who despise Trump:

“NY Times: Rise of Donald Trump Tracks Growing Debate Over Global Fascism”
By PETER BAKER (Rebuttal by Mike S. King, of the Anti-New-York-Times)

    • TimeToWakeUpAmerica

The strident opponents of Trump use the term FASCISM almost always in connection with Hitler, and/or Mussolini, when FASCISM really just means the marriage of CORPORATIONS (such as GOLDMAN SACHS, on WALL STREET) with GOVERNMENT (in D.C. – the District of Criminals). GOLDMAN SACHS is just ONE of the PRIVATELY-owned (FOREIGN) main banks behind the so-called “Federal” “Reserve”. It’s the “Federal” “Reserve” which FINANCES (under-writes) all the corruption in the District of Criminals and on Wall St., like the late-2008 BANKER BAILOUTS, at the expense of the American people, while employees at the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission, who were supposedly keeping tabs on Wall St. fraud & corruption, sat at their computers watching PORN, all day long! (END THE FED!)

Trump will be the next Prez, Period.

Why will he be the next prez; because it is the ‘small’ minority that is whining, weeping, screeching, gnashing their teeth, and this minority are the children of the collective, easily bought and paid for. Take away the money and these children will go to their room and whine, till they get hungry. Why aren’t the children of the collective putting up a ‘hissy fit’ about their politico’s wars.

The U.S. is a majority rule. I would say the majority has been silent for a very long time in the U.S. But it looks like the majority has woke-up and is speaking loud and clear, and saying enough of the corruption, the crony collusion, the lies and deceit. The majority truly are sick and tired of the wars inflicted on the world and the U.S. by those who profit and the political class that garner power from supporting those wars. One reason the majority woke-up, they are the middle class, we all know the middle class is going down!

Trump will be prez, unless someone cheats and steals it away!!!
