EU Bars France: Now It Begins
By Staff News & Analysis - September 16, 2010

France may face fines or disciplinary action from the European Union for its Roma roundups. EU officials likened the policy to Nazi-era tactics. French President Nicolas Sarkozy's (left) Gypsy problem keeps getting bigger. France may face disciplinary action or fines from the European Union for targeting Gypsies specifically from Romania and Bulgaria – known as Roma – as an entire ethnic minority. Mr. Sarkozy in July initiated a campaign of police roundups and deportations against the Roma. France could face charges at the EU Court of Justice in Luxembourg on two counts, according to EU officials. The first is a violation of law governing behavior toward an ethnic group and the second could be for not providing Roma deportees with judicial appeal in accordance with EU regulations. EU Justice Minister Viviane Reding on Tuesday blasted the French policy, saying she was "shocked" that Gypsies were targeted. "This is a situation I had thought Europe would not have to witness again after the Second World War," she said. Dominant Social Theme: France must be stopped. Exporting the Roma is bestial.

Free-Market Analysis: It is true that as the Internet becomes more comprehensive, patterns emerge. We see patterns and often those who patronize our humble blog see the same patterns, and others, only more deeply and clearly. We are grateful when they present these visions to us via feedback. What is the pattern we detect here?

Well, at the risk of sounding paranoid (a risk we seem to run every day), we find this whole Roma blow-up a bit too "neat." Indeed Nicolas Sarkozy is in trouble politically and perhaps he is using the Roma controversy for political gain. But it also provides the European Union with a perfect opportunity to step in and assert controversial federal powers over one of Europe's most ancient and insular cultures.

We wouldn't put this sort of conniving beyond Sarkozy and his regime. Sarkozy is nothing if not an ardent internationalist and despite occasional threats to remove France from the grasp of the EU, it is far more likely that Sarokozy harbors ambitions to run the EU than to resist it. If it is a gambit, it is a good one. The EU, in seeking to publicly expand its powers, is apt to end up in an argument over some obscure or even thuggish point. But in the expulsion of the Roma, the EU looks on the side of angels.

And then there is this from the UK Telegraph:

Real IRA threatens to attack British bankers … The Real IRA has threatened to attack British bankers and their companies, claiming they benefit only a "social elite" at a cost to "millions of victims". … The dissident republican terrorist group labelled bankers as "criminals" and as the "next door neighbours of the politicians" … In a series of written answers the group tried to tap into public hostility towards financiers since the economic downturn. However, security experts have doubted whether the group, which has only 100 activists, has the resources to carry out its threats. During the early 1990s the Provisional IRA carried out a bombing campaign on the City of London and again on Canary Wharf in 1996. So far the Real IRA has not been responsible for bombings on such a large scale.

Once more our collective antenna rises. We pointed out in a feedback response yesterday that this a most broad statement. The IRA makes no distinction between central banking and banking generally, and thus comes off sounding as leftist as a communique in a movie. It puts us in mind of several decade's of turmoil sponsored by leftist European groups in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s which turn out to be have been sponsored after all by American and European intelligence agencies under the umbrella of something called Operation Gladio.

Operation Gladio sought to create leftist violence in Europe for purposes of moving the political process in Europe to the right, and thus forcing an authoritarian opposition to communism – and perhaps the transnational solution of the EU as well. We have been awaiting the resurgence of these sorts of manipulations.

Operation Gladio was only one end of the pincer. There is a good deal of apocryphal evidence that the youth movement of the 1960s and 1970s was also cultivated by Western intelligence elites determined to undo, especially, American republican culture. The Tavistock Institute features prominently in these manipulations. What is the Tavistock Institute? Here's an online explanation from "Educate-Yourself.org."

Formed in 1947, the Tavistock Institute is an independent not-for-profit organization which seeks to combine research in the social sciences with professional practice. Problems of institution-building and organizational design and change are being tackled in all sectors – government, industry and commerce, health and welfare, education, etc. – nationally and internationally, and clients range from multinationals to small community groups.

A growth area has been the use of a developmental approach to evaluation of new and experimental programs, particularly in health, education and community development. This has also produced new training events alongside the regular program of group relations conferences. The Institute owns and edits the monthly journal Human Relations (published by Plenum Press) which is now in its 48th year, and has recently launched (in conjunction with Sage Publications) a new journal Evaluation.

Three elements combine to make the Institute unusual, if not unique: it has the independence of being entirely self-financing, with no subsidies from the government or other sources; the action research orientation places it between, but not in, the worlds of academia and consultancy; and its range of disciplines include anthropology, economics, organizational behavior, political science, psychoanalysis, psychology and sociology.

The ideology of American foundations was created by the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in London. In 1921, the Duke of Bedford, Marquess of Tavistock, the 11th Duke, gave a building to the Institute to study the effect of shellshock on British soldiers who survived World War I. Its purpose was to establish the "breaking point" of men under stress, under the direction of the British Army Bureau of Psychological Warfare, commanded by Sir John Rawlings-Reese.

Tavistock Institute is headquartered in London. Its prophet, Sigmond Freud, settled in Maresfield Gardens when he moved to England. He was given a mansion by Princess Bonaparte. Tavistock's pioneer work in behavioral science along Freudian lines of "controlling" humans established it as the world center of foundation ideology. Its network now extends from the University of Sussex to the U.S. through the Stanford Research Institute, Esalen, MIT, Hudson Institute, Heritage Foundation, Center of Strategic and International Studies at Georgetown, where State Dept. personal are trained, US Air Force Intelligence, and the Rand and Mitre corporations … A network of secret groups, the Mont Pelerin Society, Trilateral Commission, Ditchley Foundation, and the Club of Rome is conduit for instructions to the Tavistock network.

One can see from these relationships, just how elaborate all of this is. The breadth and depth of elite control is startling in its comprehensiveness. Its operative signature blurs public polity with private endeavor whenever possible, to generate the kind of mercantilism pioneered by the world-spanning East India Tea Company, which at one point ran its own army. It is not for nothing that the British Royal Family refers to itself as "the Firm." We quoted Joan Veon of NewsWithViews.com yesterday on the size and fortune of the Firm. Here again is the appropriate quote:

… Let's take a look at the queen herself. According to Who Owns the World by Kevin Cahill, the queen is the legal owner of 6,600 million acres of land that equals one sixth of the earth's non-ocean surface. She is the only person on earth who owns whole countries and who owns countries that are not her own domestic territory. This land ownership is separate from her role as head of state and is different from other monarchies—like Norway, Belgium, and Denmark, where no such claim is made. The value of her holdings is approximately $33T, more than the estimated value of all of the earth's natural resources which is estimated to be $25T.

What occurs to us is that the British Royalty and those around them, behind them and supporting them are not running a ceremonial entity. No, in a sense they are running a business, the largest in the world, but one that is for all its size is a kind of private corporate institution. And ironically, if one watches how Queen Elizabeth goes about her duties it is soon clear that she herself, for all her reputed ownership of one-sixth of the earth, is in thrall to even bigger forces.

The roots of the modern authoritarian conspiracy run deep. But the Internet has made its operative structure putatively evident. When one accepts that there are such large scale manipulations as operation Gladio, then many other anomalous events can become subject to the same sort of clarity. Everything from the supposed death of Paul McCartney (and his replacement at a young age) to the shocking tragic school deaths at Columbine to the events surrounding 9/11 themselves can be seen through this horrid prism (for the paranoid among us) – and emerge in a different light.

After Thoughts

The elite has the resources and willingness to manipulate society and in an era of unprecedented upheaval will no doubt attempt to do so. Such manipulations will certainly affect the economic and investment sphere as well as the sociopolitical one, as such arenas are inter-related. Those who aware of the capabilities of the elite, and its predisposition to large-scale promotions would do well to watch closely. Times may change but the elite, in our view, does not.
