Negative Trump Coverage Is Long-Term Threat to His Presidency
By Daily Bell Staff - January 23, 2017

While Trump fans are happy to see the antagonism, others worry about Trump’s long-term damage … Donald Trump’s “running war” on the media is continuing into his presidency, with statements over the weekend calling into question the extent to which information from the White House can be trusted.  White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Monday will hold his first daily press briefing, at which he could face questions about a statement Saturday night that included demonstrably false assertions about the crowd size at Trump’s inauguration and a promise by the new administration that “we’re going to hold the press accountable.” – Salon

Trump’s recent briefing by Sean Spicer focused almost entirely on rebutting news media figures regarding the amount of people present at his swearing in. He said through Spicer that there were more people at his swearing in than for any other, though these statements were contested by the media which called them false.

The largest issue is whether the relationship between Trump and the media can continue this way and for how long. An article at State of the Nation maintains that the mainstream media must be shut down because it is not going to change:

Truly, if ever there was a treasonous and deadly enemy of the American people, it is the entire Mainstream Media (MSM).  …  The writing is now on the wall:  The current corporate Mainstream Media cannot peacefully coexist with the American Republic.

The Mainstream Media has proven itself determined to subvert democratic institutions wherever they can cynically manipulate them for the benefit of the ruling elites.  The Mainstream Media has committed numerous acts of high treason, abetted the genocide and forced displacement of indigenous peoples around the world, and employed yellow journalism to explicitly goad the American people into unprovoked wars of aggression.

The Mainstream Media has demonstrated repeatedly that it does not act in the best interest of the American people, and often acts to their great detriment.

The article goes over a number of different topics and discusses ways the mainstream media may not be telling the truth about any of them. It says for instance that chemtrails haven’t been properly reported on and that the reports that have been made don’t tell the truth.

It calls 9/11 the “greatest coverup in history” but then quickly moves on to various assassinations that it also believe have not been properly reported including that of President John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe, and many others.

There’s more. “The Mainstream Media, at the very least, has covered up the true facts surrounding the Oklahoma City Bombing, the Virginia Tech massacre, the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting, the San Bernardino shootings, among numerous other government-sponsored false flag terrorist attacks and black operations.”

The article stated that it is not the mainstream media that alone is in charge of the larger propaganda effort. Instead, interlocking directorships create a monolithic global complex that is inextricably interconnected to the World Shadow Government.”

The main point of the article is that the media ought to be shut down entirely – the mainstream media not the alternative media.

How this is suppose to be done is not clear however and to take down the mainstream media you would also have to take down such related elements as Google and Facebook.

An alternative way to deal with this problem is to remove the advantages held by the mainstream media. You would do this by removing the corporate advantages given to it by the federal court.

We’ve mentioned them in the past. They have to do with corporate personhood, intellectual property rights, central banking and corporate regulation, among other issues.

Without these props, none of which were available for any length of time before the Civil War, the corporate media would collapse along with its parent companies. The artificial, fascist bigness of corporate America would be done away with.

In its place there would rise up once more a plethora of smaller entities, many with a libertarian bent. The situation would be somewhat analogous to the way the alternative press is structured today.

Admittedly, nothing like this is being contemplated at the moment but if things get bad enough … who knows.

Even a quick review of front page Google headlines presents the problem clearly:

Trump leaves world diplomats down and out – CNN-3 hours ago

Women’s March on Washington overshadows Trump’s first full day – The Guardian-Jan 21, 2017

Trump’s motorcade surrounded by screaming protesters – Daily Mail-Jan 21, 2017

Violence flares in Washington during Trump inauguration – International-Reuters-Jan 20, 2017

Trump’s Attack on the Press Shows Why Protests Are Necessary – Opinion-The New Yorker-Jan 22, 2017

Foreign Payments to Trump Firms Violate Constitution, Suit Will Claim – Highly Cited-New York Times-17 hours ago

Conclusion: The point here is that the alternative press does not have a chance to reach Google’s front page, while the mainstream media is almost uniformly critical. Unless the mainstream press is somehow blunted, Trump will not have an easy time with this sort of coordinated negativity.

“But it is hard to conceive that Trump will last full four years – let alone eight – with this level of negative scrutiny.”

Well that is a relief. Thank you for a bit of positive news amidst all this negativity!

    • Dimitri Ledkovsky

      🤣👍

  • Trump today opened up Whitehouse news briefings to four reporters outside the beltway via skype.

  • Jonathan Halsey

Maybe you’re correct… Trump may not last the four-year term but the populist movement will continue.

  • Earn nest

Lies are seldom as persistent as the truth. There is a lot of very good media eg. DB that continue to simply provide truth and fair and reasonable commentary. As long as the sources that are now well established don’t fall into the trap of mimicking the olde garde tendencies to skew and fabricate unjustly they should end up as the new mainstream in a few years time. Remember Trump won with tremendous media opposition already.

  • typodrive

If Trump would stop lying and contradicting himself, stop blowing his own horn and threatening his opponents and surrounding himself with toxic people maybe there would be good things to write about him.

  • vongoh

The best thing he can do is use the bully pulpit of the POTUS to consistently counter the false stories with clear, compelling evidence of the contrary.

The problem I’m seeing – so far – is that he’s using mainly emotional arguments off the cuff through Twitter or blanket statements (with no supporting evidence) in his speeches. Or the press secretary is going full guns blazing in the press briefings without fully vetting facts and opening them up to counter charges of fake stories.

If they were consistent about calling out these problems with solid EVIDENCE – they could actually bring down the credibility of the mainstream press so far that many of these currently *unassailable* networks would actually go out of business or simply fade away in short order.

They just have to do a better job than the organizations that are trying to bring them down. Its not that hard. Just do the diligence, get the facts straight and keep putting them out there in prime time.

    • Dimitri Ledkovsky

Solid EVIDENCE of Hill and Bill’s criminal wrongdoing has been around for years, yet they were allowed to fulfill tradition as guests of honor at the Inauguration. The Donald is going to be the same old s**t all over again in a different suit.

      • PatrickHenry1789

Sadly, I believe you’re right. Every 4 years is just a rearranging of the deck chairs on the USS Titanic. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. The Deep State always gets their man. And if that man deviates from the plan laid out for him. He winds up like JFK,

    • Praetor

A thoughts. He is doing both. The press briefing was a smack down and it was great. Kind of like ‘WWF’. And then Sunday Kelly Ann on UpChuck Toad’s opinion show. She stated well the problem, nicely and quitely, the problem MSNews has with a spin with a false propaganda narrative And all UpChuck Toad could say is, “you are not answering my question”. When in fact she was answering his question with every word she spoke. And she did it nicely and quitely, with a lot of grace. A thought.!!!

    • FEEuser

What do we need the “bully pulpit” for when we can do it ourselves?

      • vongoh

Because his words and messages goes out to the entire planet that has access to broadcast and digital communications. They can’t censor *all* of them.

  • Praetor

Conclusion, hard to see Trump lasting 4 years. Please! Bush last 8 years, he was attack for 8 years daily. There was a small time period after 9/11 where the MSNews left him alone, that ended quickly.

You have said it yourselves DB, MSNews are lies fabrications and manipulative propaganda, They are just the mouth piece of the deep state and they do need to be smacked down like a rapid animal.!!!

    • FEEuser

Hold on there! The MSM’s “attacks” on W had nothing to do with the truth. That was mere posturing, shuck and jive, full of memes about those big bad conservatives. It was all for show.

  • JS

Trumps inauguration may have been the largest. The proof is in the date stamp. The photo circulated by the mainstream media, claiming low count, was taken one hour BEFORE the event. If you go to CNN and check the megapixel for the crowd during Trumps’s speech and compare it to 2009 during Obama’s speech, there is a larger crowd.

  • davidnrobyn

We knew the MSM wasn’t going to cut Trump any slack. I’m sure he’s aware of this too. He basically declared war on them. How effective the negativity will be depends on how credible the MSM are vs. Trump and his team.

As always, for most people most of the time, whether or not an entity is viewed as credible depends on whether they publish material that corroborates or conflicts with a person’s viewpoint. So basically the same situation will continue, with the electorate divided.

But the difference now is, the administration and the MSM aren’t singing the same tune. Those who disagree with the MSM’s viewpoint now have the administration on their side, rather than just the alternative media. A different situation indeed.

    • Praetor

A WWF smack down, Trump vs the MSNewsMedia.!!!!

  • care4mn

President Trump clearly gave his supporters the opportunity to challenge MSNews when they attempt to attack him and his presidency. He will put out a correction. It is up to his supporters to provide “rapid response” support. Ms. Conway was an excellent example in her exchange with Chuck Todd. She refused to accept Todd’s premise that The President’s estimate was wrong. Todd was reduced to repeating that question while she delivered a message that supported the President. Ms. Conway dismissed his question and premise graciously and went to much more important issues.

We, the people, need to follow her lead and dismiss MSM’s attempts to blow up a non-issue.

  • We, the United States, have the best Constitution ever created by mankind … and it comes with as much RESPONSIBILITY and LIABILITY as it does FREEDOM and LIBERTY!

The fact one may like/dislike does NOT include absolute authority to LIE !!! Each and every Sovereign has the absolute RIGHT – and indeed to DUTY – to call any and all LIES into full account regardless of their source or origin …

Publishing a damned LIE in the process of exposing it does NOT infer approval or acceptance of its content.

Our LYING MARXhu Akbar MEDIA is infinitely derelict in that duty … and aren’t they tremendous at straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel ???

    • Licia

You dreamer, didn’t you hear George Carlin spell it out??
“It’s called the american dream because you’ve got to be asleep to believe it”.
Fake news starts from the US of A and spreads like a cancer to the rest of the world because your Corporations are very powerful and, as you know, he who pays the piper calls the tune.

      • @Licia … Yep. George was right abut that, wasn’t he?!

As for me, I’m not a dreamer, but I am all Marxist’s/Socialist’s NIGHTMARE! I don’t spare the bastards at all, at any time for any reason.

And THAT is why my BLOCKED list is longer than most commentary pages 🙂

    • FEEuser

I disagree. The Constitution granted some the power to TAX, and the power to tax is the power to DESTROY.

      • You’re absolutely correct! Our Sacred Constitution is written in such manner (The Sacred Second Amendment) to hold such tyrannical taxation into account!

However, IT IS UP TO US, the Sovereigns, to do that!

Perhaps President Trump’s ‘WALL’ can be used to stand a few GPOGPs against … keep a good thought …

  • Tom Britz

Where was all the complaints about Hillary and the foreign donations?

    • Sherry Gregory

Good question – the media regarded those as ‘charitable foreign donations’ … and not on the media’s radar.

    • FEEuser

Yes, good question. But it does not necessarily follow that Trump is a “better” candidate who will set things “right” now that the dictatorial hag is gone.

Right for whom? Cui bono? Who is really backing him? What are his true goals? If the MSM is all in for something, or anybody, it’s probably not the truth and not good.

All candidates must face the hard questions.

  • FreeOregon

What if there were alternative media to which people routinely turn for information instead of going to a NYT or WSJ site?

  • John Bentley

What happened to net neutrality? Or is that only aimed at the right?

    • Praetor

Trump just put a guy opposed to Net. Neutrality. Ajit Pai. A de-regulator. Lets hope.!!!

  • ICFubar

The question I ask in return is who gives a flyin’ turd as to what these differing elitist factions orchestrate. The result down where I live will not change much, Just more of the same only more so, as more erosion takes place with more chaos out of which a new order will emerge, minus all the good stuff we once enjoyed like rule of law with un lienable rights and some just share in the profits made from our productive efforts.

  • MetaCynic

As always, “it’s the economy stupid.” If Trump can improve the economic prospects of ordinary Americans then he will easily be able to surmount the attacks by the dying fake news media whom thinking people are increasingly ignoring. He has already overcome the unprecedented assault by America’s elite institutions.

  • REH

I think the negative coverage by the mass media will simply work to further innoculate Trump. The boy who constantly cried wolf is soon ignored, for better or worse.

  • James Clander

“Truly, if ever there was a treasonous and deadly enemy of the American people, it is the entire Mainstream Media (MSM). … The writing is now on the wall: The current corporate Mainstream Media cannot peacefully coexist with the American Republic.”

This the takeaway that is spot on -as is the rest of the article.
Here in Australia the MSM is parroting the same crap that’s spewed out by the rest of the MSM worldwide -at least amongst the Western MSM. However it nearly ALL starts in USA -or UK .

They must be re-educated or shut down. Hopefully Trump may do it.

    • FEEuser

Me? I don’t want government determining what news is fit to print. Let the consumers decide.

  • ilpatino

the narrative is orchestrated. So take away the orchestrator.

    • FEEuser

No need for that. Just turn them off and stop watching.

  • rahrog

If allowed, the market will do away with MSM.

    • FEEuser

The market is ALREADY doing away with the MSM. Millions have stopped watching them. Millions more will, too. New & information is a commodity like any other. If they don’t put out a good product, people won’t buy anymore.

      • rahrog

        Roger that.

  • Joe Blow

This sort of report on “reporting” comes as no surprise to long time activists and researchers and may put others into denial mode. Ever since the CIA introduced “conspiracy theorist” into the meme to discredit anti war activists it has been the word hammers used on anyone presenting truth.

Speaking of which, the lies of this nation goes back to its founding.

In 1606 King James set up The Virginia Company to begin settlements in Virginia. Its early members were aristocrats. Eventually it was disolved and formed into a royal colony. After the original 13 colony’s ‘independence,’ an ‘independent’ country was formed. The Virginia Company simply changed its name to the United States of America. We are a corporation not a democracy.

The control of information is something the elite always does, particularly in a despotic form of government. Information, knowledge, is power. If you can control information, you can control people.

i am still surprise why the building that cnn is in is still standing…

  • Brad Scofield

The press doesn’t realize, just as they didn’t realize it during the election process, that the more you attack Trump, the MORE we are going to stand behind him.
You idiots are all one-dimensional, and you’ll never get it because you CAN’T. All you can think in your little Zio-minds is “Destroy our enemy, Destroy our enemy.” No no no, Fools. We European whites are not so easily duped by your dumb intentions.

The easiest tactic is simply to forget the MSM. Just ignore them. They are irrelevant.

  • Zulugroove

How about putting them all at the back of each & every media scrum ….for 8 yrs !! Instead of thier coveted, & saved seats up front !! For the next 8 yrs we reverse the order of where they sit & who gets most questions !! No law against that !!

  • Douteux55

I agree with Feeuser. Trump should discipline himself not to respond. Let Spicer do the talking but this means that Trump has to rein in his tweets and stop making statements to everybody. He should get it by now that he can only talk to a small group of people about his real feelings unless he’s prepared to act on them. Sad of course, because Obama said all manner of stuff and the MSM snuffed it all out. Remember the “red line” to Assad?

  • UnbakedPegga

I agree 100%. I don’t know if change will ever come about though 😞

  • KellyIsh

You should also mention antitrust. This information trusts undermine national sec and restrain trade. Also, brooadcadting licenses would be interesting. Lastly, cut out any media firm whose parent does business with the government! Ge, amazon? Etc! Conflict of interest.

“Trump’s Attack on the Press Shows Why Protests Are Necessary – Opinion-The New Yorker-Jan 22, 2017”

The press attacks on Trump, show why alternative news sites are necessary. The American Democratic Party Mainstream Media colluded with the Hillary campaign, against Trump, as shown by Wikileaks.

“The point here is that the alternative press does not have a chance to
reach Google’s front page, while the mainstream media is almost
    uniformly critical.”

The mainstream Democratic Party Press front page does not reach me, except to read about it in alternative media. I don’t bother with the MSM national news shows either. I don’t need Google’s front page, to read alternative media, either.

The Democratic Party Media is going to be left only preaching their propaganda to their own choir.

  • cloudslicer

The press coverage of the alt right and new media is not overtly negative, in fact its mostly positive. Its the Dinosaur media outlets such as Tyrannosaurus CNN and Pterodactyl CNBC were most of the negative coverage is emanating from.

  • PB2013

I think the MSM is in the process of blunting itself. The snake will eat it’s tail. There are somethings that Press Sec Spicer contests with the MSM that may seem pointless, but I think they (the administration) were merely trying to set the tone early. I watched in this very same 1st “official” press conference Spicer bobbed and weaved through the persistent BS questions. 1 hour 4 minute mark: https://youtu.be/hTpoxrEbKFk?t=1h4m53s The current administration are well prepared. The more they kick the ant pile, the more the people will see the MSM for what they are. Worthless.
