Why Trust in Government is at All Time Lows, and Why That’s a Good Thing
By The Daily Bell Staff - February 06, 2018

Do you have confidence in the government?

Concerned about public confidence in the agency, the FBI didn’t want the FISA memo released. They didn’t want people to know their investigations are politically motivated.

Now it’s come out that the Department of Homeland Security pressured CNN into delaying the release of a report until after the Superbowl. DHS was concerned public confidence in Superbowl security would be lost if people found out about an exercise they ran last summer.

The DHS program manager of Biowatch left sensitive documents on an airplane. They revealed confusion and vulnerabilities in the exercises meant to test government response to a biological terror threat at the Superbowl.

“The biggest consequence of this mistake may have less to do with terrorists knowing our vulnerabilities and more to do with confidence in the Department of Homeland Security,” Kayyem [a former DHS official] said. “In the end, confidence in the federal government at a time of crisis is what the American public deserves.”

Hear that? Even if it is not true, the most important thing for government is keeping up public confidence.

And why should we be surprised? Everything the government does is a charade. It is all a show to make them seem more important and necessary.

The TSA is a perfect example. The TSA failed in the ballpark of 80% of tests last year when undercover officials snuck through weapons and explosive materials. But this was a substantial improvement from two years earlier when they failed 95% of tests. Doesn’t that make you feel better?

So what we have are airplanes and airports where everyone is disarmed except for the people actually trying to sneak weapons and explosives through.

And this is the problem with having any confidence in government. It is a false sense of security. They don’t deserve our confidence because they haven’t earned it.

Confidence in Government

According to PEW research center trust in government is close to all-time lows.

But less confidence in government could mean individuals take control of their own lives, or at least depend on more competent private institutions.

The government derives its power from people who abandon their personal responsibility. When people don’t see it as their own job to look into their food and medicine, you get the USDA and FDA. When people allow themselves to be controlled by fear, you get the DHS, NSA, CIA and so on. When parents don’t know how to raise their kids, they let the government diagnose them with fake diseases and pump them full of drugs.

This doesn’t mean you can’t delegate responsibilities to trusted agencies. But the government shows there is no reason to trust them. They have no incentive to deliver on their promises. And trusting them leaves you vulnerable to all sorts of disaster.

Food suppliers, manufacturers, and marketers already use private companies to test their products for safety and label accuracy. They use the government guidelines as a minimum standard. Most of the USDA protection is a myth, and it is actually the market for quality products that drive companies to deliver safe foods with accurate labels.

Good companies hire independent private auditors to give their investors confidence. Private companies have incentives to answer to their customers and compete to deliver better products and services than their competitors.

More and more neighborhoods, businesses, and even towns are turning to private policing. It’s cheaper, more effective, with less corruption, and fewer abuses by officers. The UK even started outsourcing some investigations, with great results.

The 2020 Census might not have enough funding. Good! Maybe in 1800, the census was somewhat useful. But let’s be honest, it’s now a charade. The NSA could take 20 minutes to download a report that reveals a higher volume of more accurate statistics on the U.S. population than the Census Bureau. For that matter, forget the NSA, Facebook could do the same!

Other recent events that shake confidence in government:

This list is far from complete. And it doesn’t even include the confidence-shaking conspiracy theories, some of which are bound to be true.

Help us out in the comments by adding more examples of when the government proved they do not deserve the confidence of the American people.

You don’t have to play by the rules of the corrupt politicians, manipulative media, and brainwashed peers.

  • It is indeed a good thing. The more the merrier!

Or, more important, the more perhaps who will take a look at WHY the government is so untrustworthy.

I wonder if might not have have something to do with Article 6’s Christian test ban by which mandatory biblical qualifications for civil leaders were likewise eliminated? Once adopted, it became inevitable that America would be ruled by nothing but nincompoops, scoundrels, and outright criminals.

Take nincompoops for example: The qualifications in Exodus 18:21 begins with the fear of Yahweh. David and Solomon inform us that wisdom, knowledge, and understanding all begin with the fear of Yahweh. Thus, without the fear of Yahweh, you end up with, at best, nincompoops.

    • No doubt it is a good thing that people would finally begin to question the out of control bureaucracy, but Christianity, as presented today is no answer either. The American people have become non-thinkers and turned over all their common sense and and capacities to others to do their thinking for them and what we see today is the culmination of years of doing such and the outcomes playing out before us ! We all let the people with the initials behind their names and lawyers control us because we were stupid enough to think they were smarter than us and some how more ethical and good people ? In retrospect it is obvious how absurd that was to do. And we did it in every aspect of our lives . Doctors, lawyers, politicians (who are many times lawyers ) Judges who were also lawyers and every so-called professionals have simply abused their power and positions in a multitude of ways because people let them ! In fact they more or less paid them to do this out of ignorance and fear ! The same dynamics have existed with all the Abrahamic religions since Constantine came along and censored what was once a very different state of events for his own political purposes of control.

It is now clear the DEMs seem to control the DSA and there is no question PRAVDA/MSM is simply the propaganda/interrogation arm of the left DEM thugocracy. They will say or do anything to push their agendas and cover up their many crimes now that they are exposed on many levels. So we will see if we actually have any laws or not, won’t we ? And it all depends on whether people demand accountability or simply sit on the couch getting fatter and do nothing except complain ! Those people I refer are you and me and every other citizen ! I have made my decisions long ago and live accordingly and hope many more will do the same !–prayer-and-meditation.html–.html

There is a much better way to live and think and it is NOT difficult at all to accomplish !

      • Down to Earth, thanks for your input.

The key phrase in what you wrote is “Christianity, *as presented today* is no answer either.”

Your correct, today’s antinomian, anti-kingdom, anti-dominion Christianity has very few answers. It’s all but culturally impotent.

What was Christendom (Christians dominionizing society on behalf of their King) in 17th-century Christian Colonial America (and which was responsible for what made America great, per Deuteronomy 28:1-14) has devolved into mere 4-walled Christianity, aka Christendumb.

The bulk of today’s Christians are best depicted by Christ, in Matthew 5:13, as salt that’s lost its savor, good for nothing but to be trampled under the foot of man. But all is not bad news in this because a good foot stomping tends to bring back some of the saltiness.

        • My real point is that Jesus never said go forth and create mega churches or businesses, quite the opposite. He spoke against the establishment religions at the time and that is why the Sadducess and Pharasees had him killed. Jesus was not at all about any established religion hierarchy. He tried to explain to people that all the answers are inside you. He said many times go inside and seek truth and I will meet you in that secret place ! So even after all this time few have a clue what he was talking about. He was never a proponent of any of the churches at all, quite the opposite. But most still believe this nonsense.

          • The word “church” shouldn’t even be in our English Bibles. This, thanks to King James.

The Greek word “ecclesia,” poorly translated “church,” is principally a political term referring to the entire life of a community, led by Christian elders.

This is precisely what the Apostle Paul had in mind in Romans 13:1-7. Romans 13 has absolutely nothing to do with secular government.* Instead, Romans 13 is our template for Christian dominion. Everything therein is depicting a biblical civil government. The word “continually” in Verse 6 (amplifying Verses 3 and 4) alone proves the point.

For more, see blog series “Ten Reasons Why Romans 13 is Not About Secular Government,” beginning at

*What makes a government secular is its rejection of Yahweh as its Sovereign and thus His moral law as supreme. Case in point: The United States Constitutional Republic.

Compliance based on fear requires constantly upping the fear factor. Compliance based on love is complete in itself. Fear is fear. It breeds violence. Love does not, although there are times when the only answer to immediate, non-negotiable violence is indeed violence. Google “Target Focus Training.

Love the trend. But remember, the state is merely a tool of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Federal Reserve System.

We certainly can’t trust our government, especially the numerous and powerful executive branch bureaucracies. To top it all off, we also absolutely cannot trust our main stream establishment media.

their slogan “KILL WHITE PEOPLE” is pretty darned CLEAR and EMINENT DANGER!!

The irony here is the US Constitution was written BECAUSE governments trend toward corruption and despotism and so it provided some preemptive structures and laws to LIMIT government growth.

Of course the government should be mistrusted. That is precisely why the first two ( if not four) Constitutional Amendments were added. The purpose of the second amendment is to insure the right to defend one’s self from GOVERNMENT TYRANNY and provide at least some hope of taking it down if (or when) necessary.

I would also add, as has others here, that we can’t trust the mainstream media either. IMO THAT is the tougher nut because we all were raised that things written or said publicly legally had to be true (e.g., “truth in advertising”, plagiarism, “journalistic standards”, etc.)

The greatest anger will be towards the media for their complicity more than government itself which is expected to be corrupt.

“Trust In Government”, as I see it, is nothing more than “Stockholm Syndrome”, which was formally named in 1973 as the result of a minor robbery and hostage situation in Sweden. But the “syndrome” had been around for thousands of years — since the first conquerors initiated the first “nations”, which have been amalgamated and changed over the years to come up with such as “The-United-States” and the “World Atlas” as it appears today.
In the science of rulership I believe naming it “Stockholm Syndrome” some 45 years ago was a stroke of genius. Best not let the serfs realize they are serfs. Sam
