Assange, Hero or Trickster?
By Staff News & Analysis - December 06, 2010

WikiLeaks Ready to Release Giant 'Insurance' … Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder, has circulated across the Internet an encrypted "poison pill" cache of uncensored documents suspected to include files on BP and Guantanamo Bay. One of the files identified this weekend by The Sunday Times — called the "insurance" file — has been downloaded from the WikiLeaks website by tens of thousands of supporters … The military papers on Guantanamo Bay, yet to be published, have been supplied by Bradley Manning, Assange's primary source until his arrest in May. Other documents that Assange is confirmed to possess include an aerial video of a U.S. airstrike in Afghanistan that killed civilians, BP files and Bank of America documents. One of the key files available for download — named insurance.aes256 — appears to be encrypted with a 256-digit key. Experts said last week it was virtually unbreakable. – FoxNews/SundayTimes

Dominant Social Theme: This fascinating man, Julian Assange, has thought of everything. He is the proverbial "Trickster [hero] who serves as a transformer … who creates order out of chaos." (- Britannica)

Free-Market Analysis: Here at the Bell, we continue to cover the ever-growing story of Julian Assange and to ponder whether or not the entire affair is something of an elite promotion. Every day, there is something new, and this has all sorts of financial and sociopolitical ramifications in our view. If the "Assange affair" is not a promotion, then the Internet is becoming an ever-more powerful and independent environment – one where increasingly almost anything goes. If Assange has been "put up to it," then we would argue such a ploy has some characteristics of elite desperation. In this article, we will once again examine both sides of the Assange phenomenon, with a special emphasis on how elite dominant social themes are formed and presented – partaking, in some cases, of ancient tribal "Trickster" narratives.

The modern power elite often seems to structure its promotions in the form of a Hegelian dialectic. It may be that the modern sociopolitical conversation is so out-of-control (thanks to the Internet) that in order to corral both sides of the dialogue, elite spokespeople must begin to take libertarian-like positions. In other words, the power elite is being forced to reestablish the goal-posts so far down the field that its own mainstream media mouthpieces end up giving voice to the very free-market oriented perspectives that the elite once hoped (in the 20th century, anyway) were thoroughly eradicated. Assange could be representative of this trend, far-fetched as it may sound.

If Assange is authentic, he is using the Internet in a heroic fashion to make increasingly authoritarian, Western states less feasible; if he is not authentic, he is still accomplishing some good by making government bureaucracies nervous. But we must add that if Assange's persona and work are indeed a promotional ploy, then this is certainly one of the most important dominant social themes of the 21st century. (Thus, we hope some who stop by here, download and store, or even circulate, Bell articles on Assange and generally as well.) You can see some of our other articles on Assange here:

We don't know what to think. Nor is it incumbent upon us to come to a conclusion. We have certainly pointed out the almost movie-like "back story" of Assange's life, his apparent run-ins with Australian intel agencies when very young (at which point a relationship could have been generated). We have pondered the leaks themselves and noticed more and more that they support current Anglo-American power elite objectives – vilifying Iran, Pakistan, China and Russia (among other countries) while doing very little damage to the strategic objectives of the West.

We have even suggested that the sex charges against Assange and his general high-profile association with WikiLeaks is gradually creating public acceptance for more and more government interference with the Internet and certain websites. This is now being mentioned in articles we read, such as this recent one (excerpted below) from the Wall Street Journal:

Julian Assange, Information Anarchist … WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange hopes to hobble the U.S. government. Whatever else WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has accomplished, he's ended the era of innocent optimism about the Web. As wiki innovator Larry Sanger put it in a message to WikiLeaks, "Speaking as Wikipedia's co-founder, I consider you enemies of the U.S.—not just the government, but the people." The irony is that WikiLeaks' use of technology to post confidential U.S. government documents will certainly result in a less free flow of information …

Most recently as we noted just yesterday in the Holland interview After Thoughts, there have been reports linking him directly to mainstream media reporting, as follows: "Julian Assange has close links to the Rothschilds (By Jane Burgermeister at birdflu666.wordpress.com) … WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has won an award from the Economist magazine, a financial publication controlled by the Rothschild banking family, and he has also featured on an Economist video clip, raising questions about conflicts of interest."

And then there is the information regarding the giant "insurance file" that Assange has circulated around the Internet. While Assange has been very clear that he has become the public face of WikiLeaks only reluctantly, his presentation of documents as a kind of blackmail against nation-states personalizes WikiLeaks' mission beyond any argument. Assange IS WikiLeaks. WikiLeaks will or will not release information depending on what happens to Assange. How do people who contributed the information feel about that?

We want Assange to be the powerful, courageous, brilliant young man he seems to be. But there is so much being written about Assange; perhaps only the elite can muster this kind of firepower, and only for important promotions. Certainly there are less provocative ways that Assange could have gone about his business. There is, for instance, an extant model called Cryptome.org that has been functioning since the mid-1990s, and has the same kind of publishing philosophy that Assange has. Cryptome continues to publish regularly and for US$25 will ship two DVDs of the Cryptome 14.5-years archive of "leaks" from June 1996 to November 2010. Cryptome's principals harbor doubts about Assange and his promotional methodology.

If Assange is indeed a creation of the Anglo-American power elite, there are certainly precursors that would render this unsurprising. In fact, looking back on the power elite's 20th-century machinations from the standpoint of conspiratorial history, it becomes clear that major manipulations became more scientific after World War II. This was when the elite banking families that have run the conspiracy (at least in part) for the past 60 years made their strongest strides, in our view.

One of the ways that the elites gained further control over Western governments was by formalizing their own private intelligence agencies by positioning them with British and American governments. In this way, domestic and foreign intel ops were able to receive all the resources of vast governmental power while still reporting, essentially, to the elites that have created them. The Anglosphere elites thus kept domestic "enemies" in line and just as importantly kept the political processes moving smoothly ahead. When history – real history – is written about these agencies throughout the West, they will be seen as doing the bidding of the elites at the expense of the democracies they supposedly served.

At the same time as Anglo-American elites established internal intelligence controls, they also apparently formalized their social-control operations, which were essentially based on the growing science of psychology as constructed by the famous trio of Freud, Jung and Adler. One of the main research centers for how to apply mind-control to Western societies was – according to Internet conspiratorial history – the British group Tavistock. Feedbacker Bill Ross just yesterday sent us this description of Tavistock in relation to Assange, as follows:

"All Tavistock and American foundation techniques have a single goal – to break down the psychological strength of the individual and render him helpless to oppose the dictators of the World Order. Any technique which helps to break down the family unit, and family inculcated principles of religion, honor, patriotism and sexual behavior, is used by the Tavistock scientists as weapons of crowd control."

Now while this sounds rather grim, the Anglo-American elite has from a business perspective the goal of centralizing power under the roof of one world government. Here at the Bell, as our efforts and network of diligent elves has expanded, we have been surprised by the power and breadth of Anglosphere efforts. It now appears to us that a host of 20th century events were orchestrated by Tavistock and those providing its funding and direction. These events COULD include the rise of the Beatles (and a fake Paul McCartney), a faked NASA moon-landing, Operation Gladio (in which Europe was supposedly destablized by faux-Marxist military operations) the Vietnam war (which was started by an admittedly false-flag operation) and even (in our humble opinion) the fall of the Soviet Union and the demise of most of the world's more clear-cut Marxist movements.

All of the above orchestrations (if that is what they were) strengthened Western regulatory democracy (the state) and its credibility at the expense of individuals and families. They would be "promotions" (the ones that exist) – fear-based exercises and their ultimate goal is to frighten Western middle classes into giving up more wealth and control to specially constructed facilities of the power elite such as the UN, WHO and other unelected international organizations. There are of course different kinds of promotions and some are bigger than others. The biggest promotions – the overarching ones – are central banking (money from nothing); state-mandated monopoly justice; regulatory democracy itself and of course the various manufactured wars that Western citizens are regularly stampeded into supporting.

We ought to mention at this point that there are several alternative Internet news outlets that are vociferously promoting the idea that Assange is somehow a creation of Israel and the Mossad. It is true, in our opinion, that the Mossad provides support (in certain operations) for the CIA and MI6, and may even taken the lead occasionally. But given what we have just presented above, it makes no sense to focus specifically on the Mossad and Israel as regards Assange. The Assange promotion (assuming it is) can easily be contextualized within the efforts of the Anglosphere.

There seems no question to us that between dominant social themes and sub dominant social themes, the Anglo-American power elite in the 20th century dominated the Western cultural, political and military conversation. It increasingly created what we consider the foundation for an elaborate New Dark Age, one that has only now begun to fracture thanks to the Internet. It is in fact the Internet that, like the Gutenberg press before it, has begun to create a new Renaissance and Reformation ushering in a time when the miracles of humanity are beginning to be rediscovered once again.

Man did NOT, perhaps, go the moon in the 1960s; but it may well be possible that ancient Indians some 15,000 years ago DID go to the moon, and beyond in mercury-powered space ships. Man did not build great cities 5,000 years ago, but it is possible (for some of them have been found offshore) that he built a global network of such coastal municipalities multi-millennia ago, and these cities were drowned when the sea level rose. Man did not invent nuclear power in the 20th century but in fact may have invented it 15,000 years ago – and used it destructively as well.

The architect of the modern atomic bomb who was in charge of the Manhattan Project, Robert Oppenheimer, was asked by a student after the Manhattan explosion, "How do you feel after having exploded the first atomic bomb on earth?" Oppenheimer's reply to the question was, "Not the first atomic bomb, but the first atomic bomb in modern times." Oppenheimer strongly believed that nuclear weapons were used in ancient India, and he based this conclusion on accurate descriptions of such weapons found in the Mahabharata. He believed that the ancient Vedic weaponry mentioned in Mahabharata matched the modern nuclear weapons he was involved in developing. (- IndiaDivine.org)

Yes … it is possible that cures for cancer and other diseases have been kept out of the mainstream by determined censorships but exist nonetheless. It is possible that space and time are an electrical phenomenon, not a gravitational one. It is possible that there are forms of infinitely renewable power that have already been discovered and merely need to be refined for every day use. All of this information (speculative though it may be) and more is readily available on the Internet today (even on Youtube next to the cute cat jokes!) and has been in increasing quantities for the past decade.

There is little the Anglosphere can do about it in our view. It is too late for censorship to make much of a difference to thinking people who have already become aware of the lacunae in the Great Conversation; the World Wide Web is likely too complicated to control with any reasonable assumption of success. Thus it is, the tide is turning; or at least the outcome is not predetermined. The elite is not reptilian. They are not space aliens. Their collective IQ seems to be about 130 plus – high, but certainly not at genius level. They have a series of manipulative techniques that have been developed intergenerationally. That's what they've got … and lots of gold.

The Daily Bell and its elves have tried as hard as they can to get out this message: the elite is not impregnable. (Even the Illuminati may be a promotion of sorts.) It may eventually rethink its goals and stake a step back. Once people realize that history is repeating itself – that the Internet is fracturing elite mind-control as thoroughly as the Gutenberg press did by triggering the Renaissance, etc. then people will feel better about themselves and less helpless.

Within this context, we continue to ponder whether Julian Assange is a kind of disinformation agent. We don't want him to be. We want to hail him as a heroic figure and to write articles defining his heroism. But there are certain patterns that seem to militate against this view. We can travel back thousands of years, in fact, to buttress our case. In tribal days (pre-Neolithic), Shamans and clan leaders used stories about the birth of the world to provide cultural glue and to cement their own leadership as providers of sacred "Trickster" narratives. Assange, in this reading, is a Trickster and when we wrote our original story about an Assange-like character (Comes a Blond Stranger) we had a kind of Trickster narrative in mind – this narrative being the oldest of all kinds of storytelling. But don't take our word for it …

In oral traditions worldwide, a [trickster] story features a protagonist (often an anthropomorphized animal) who has magical powers and is characterized as a compendium of opposites … The trickster-hero serves as a sort of folkloric scapegoat onto which are projected the fears, failures, and unattained ideals of the source culture. Trickster stories may be told for amusement as well as on serious or sacred occasions. Depending on the context, either a single tale or a series of interrelated stories might be told. … Often the trickster serves as a transformer and culture hero who creates order out of chaos. He may teach humans the skills of survival, such as how to make fire, procreate, or catch or raise food … ( – britannica.com)

Ah, dear reader, do you think the gurus at Tavistock are unaware of the Trickster narrative? They have crooned well-constructed, literate fairytales for more than a half-century now, apparently with great success. (The Beatles were seemingly constructed as Elizabethan dramaturgy with Ringo as the Jester.) Assange, were he providing an elaborate kind of disinformation, is smack in the middle of the Trickster narrative. He is a kind of metaphorical bulls-eye, in fact. The Anglo-American elite would be seen as using techniques as old as human pre-history itself. Even the attacks on Assange can be seen as ritualistic within this perspective. They are like modern Samurai swordplay; fiercely struck but not damaging; or not so far anyway.

After Thoughts

We are like wide-eyed children gathered nightly about the flickering flames. We lean forward, straining to catch the utterances of our sages. The Trickster speaks and we listen. The Trickster explains; we internalize. We yearn to believe in the magic of these mystical narratives. Yes, the Beatles were musical geniuses; yes, we landed on the moon; yes, peace and love will bless us, yes, a blond stranger will save us … Yes, as James Joyce wrote at the end of his great novel Ulysses, yes, yes, yes! … And how much courage it takes to say no.
