Dominant Social Theme: It's a new world thanks to a progressive power structure.
Free-Market Analysis: Perhaps alone in the blogosphere, as regular readers know, The Daily Bell identified the "meme" of cannabis legalization almost immediately.
High Alert was then able to utilize this knowledge to identify shareholder opportunities being developed in response to this massively powerful investment trend.
The growth of this meme – and the decriminalization of cannabis (and of drugs generally) – is part of the ongoing expansion of what we call the Internet Reformation and the information revolution it has spawned as regards all facets of life.
It is this information that has, in fact, undermined the arguments of societal elites – past and present – regarding the prohibition of cannabis in particular and prohibitions generally.
In this Era of the Internet, as this information revolution gradually takes root in more and more areas of understanding, its impact is being felt powerfully as regards drug prohibition.
The Daily Bell long ago predicted the impact of the Internet and resultant reformations that are increasingly bringing about social change.
There are powerful globalist forces at work, of course, with a variety of internationalist agendas, and yet the conversation itself is evolving in a direction that is increasingly truthful and oriented around community values. It cannot not be otherwise because the broad-based untruths of the 20th century are getting more and more difficult to promote.
Look on any mainstream site in the "feedback" and you may well be surprised at the sophistication (and vituperation) of those making statements regarding a variety of themes from central banking to global warming to the efficacy of democracy itself.
What we call directed history – the deliberate installation of dominant social themes – remains the engine of history's evolution. Elites have always set the sociopolitical agenda; but in this day and age this agenda is subject to considerable pushback and even forced change.
Our VESTS analysis, developed in Anthony Wile's 2007 book, High Alert (4th edition available for free download here), focuses on the business cycle and the collision of the Internet Reformation with elite goals and the promotions that are becoming increasingly untenable. It is perfectly likely that as 21st century information technology continues to expand its impact, many elements of elite control will be co-opted, ironically enough, by those they are aimed at. As the prohibition of the 20th century falls away, one can argue that those who are trying to maintain control have begun to understand the necessity of "moving with the times."
Here's more on the current decriminalization meme:
The Global Commission on Drug Policy will release Taking Control: Pathways to Drug Policies that Work, a new, groundbreaking report at a press conference in New York City.
The event will be live-streamed and speakers include former Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo, former Colombian President César Gaviria, former Swiss President Ruth Dreifuss, Richard Branson and others.
The Commissioners will then meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson in the afternoon following the press conference.
The report reflects the evolution in the thinking of the Commissioners, who reiterate their demands for decriminalization, alternatives to incarceration, and greater emphasis on public health approaches and now also call for permitting the legal regulation of psychoactive substances.
The Commission is the most distinguished group of high-level leaders to ever call for such far-reaching changes.
… The Commission's calls for reform were joined by current Presidents Juan Manuel Santos in Colombia, Otto Perez Molina in Guatemala, and José Mujica in Uruguay, as well as then-President Felipe Calderón in Mexico.
… These developments instigated the process that resulted in the upcoming UN General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on Drugs in 2016, which will present the opportunity to lay the foundation of a new drug control regime for the 21st century.
The release goes on to indicate that other drugs are being considered for decriminalization and that upcoming global conferences will be the vehicle to move events forward.
