Israel Faces Off With Iran
By Staff News & Analysis - June 03, 2010

It is all too easy for smug, self-righteous politicians in the West to pour scorn upon Israel's actions in the face of its enemies, from the safety of European capitals thousands of miles away from Hamas rockets. The outpouring of hatred towards Israel following the shoot-out aboard an "aid" vessel headed towards Gaza earlier this week has been overwhelming, yet sadly predictable. … Those who condemn Israel's use of "disproportionate force" would do well to remember that her foes are our deadly opponents too. If Israel is defeated the security of the West itself would be significantly undermined. There is no middle ground in this war – political leaders in the West must decide whose side they are on – the defenders of freedom in the Middle East or the forces of terrorism and tyranny that threaten them. – UK Telegraph

Dominant Social Theme: Israel needs backing from the West more than ever.

Free-Market Analysis: The unfolding and unending saga of Israel versus Gaza flotilla has ended up, unsurprisingly as an Israel versus Iran scenario. And that's too bad. When the fluid situation in the Middle East is hardened into a confrontation between Israel (a tiny nation) and Iran, Western sympathies will run hard toward Israel, making confrontation more difficult to defuse. Israel, a Jewish theocracy from our point of view with a population of seven million is far smaller than Iran, the center of Shia Muslims with a population of 70 million.

Iran was dragged into the recent flotilla controversy directly by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (above left) who has been dealing with a tremendous backlash against Israel's attack on the Gaza-bound flotilla and the deaths that occurred. Netanyahu made his statements at a special press conference on the raid as reported by the Jerusalem Post, as follows:

"This was not a 'Love Boat', it was a hate boat." … "Israel won't apologize for defending itself," Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Wednesday night, as he urged the international community to stop condemning the IDF for its Monday raid on the Gaza-bound flotilla. … "Israel should not be held to a double standard. The Jewish state has a right to defend itself like any other state." If ships were allowed to sail to Gaza without inspection as flotilla organizers have demanded, nothing could stop Iran from sending high-level weapons to Hamas in Gaza, said Netanyahu.

Already, he said, Hamas has missiles that can hit major Israeli cities such as Ashkelon, Beersheba and even Tel Aviv. Very soon, their missiles will also be able to reach the outskirts of Jerusalem. "Israel can not permit Iran to develop a Mediterranean port a few dozen kilometers from Tel Aviv," said Netanyahu. He added that missiles could also be launched from there toward Europe. "The same countries that are criticizing us today should know that they will be targeted tomorrow," he said.

Once more we see the Jewish state and its existence linked to larger geopolitical issues. Do elements of the Western power elite want to provoke more violence in the Middle East, or even a war with Iran? Well … now, somehow, the Gaza-flotilla and its suppression has provided yet another flash-point and apparent justification. Israel, as we have discussed in recent articles and feedbacks, again serves as a proxy for larger elite socio-political intrigues. Netanyahu has dragged the larger issue of Iran – and its supposed nuclear weapons – right back to center stage.

From our point of view there is no doubt that the powers-that-be are casting about for ways to ameliorate the building frustration in both Europe and America that has undermined power elite memes and jeopardized what seems to us an aggressive push for a closer union of Western nation-states. Astonishingly, after nearly a half century of silence, the London Times and other mainstream newspapers have taken to publicizing the upcoming Bilderberger meetings in Spain and even indicating the nature of the agenda. The exclusive and ferociously private Bilderberger group is certainly composed of a quasi-ruling elite. But now their convocations are being publicized. The Times article reports as follows:

Amid huge security, the Bilderberg Club, the organisation which is said to secretly control the world, is prepared to meet at an exclusive resort near Barcelona. Air space was closed near Sitges, as members of the club which numbers among its members kings, presidents and business moguls, arrived for a three-day meeting starting tomorrow. The club was rendezvousing at the Hotel Dolce in Sitges, a five-star hotel in the upmarket resort outside Barcelona, which boasts some of the highest property prices in Spain. Among those believed to be attending this year's meeting was said to be Queen Sofia of Spain, Queen Beatrice of Holland and Prince Philippe of Belgium.

Among the politicians who are rumoured to be attending are Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the Spanish Prime Minister, who is said to be giving the introductory address. … Jean-Claude Trichet, the president of the European Central Bank, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, the Nato Secretary-General and Robert Zoellick, the president of the World Bank. Romano Prodi, the ex-president of the European Commission is also scheduled to arrive.

Overseeing proceedings will be David Rockefeller, who in 1954 was one of the founders of the Bilderberg Group. Among the subjects thought to be up for discussions are the future of the euro and the dollar, the lessons to be drawn from the Grecian financial bailout, the fight against terrorism, and the threats against Nato from Afghanistan, Iran and Russia. The discussions over the fate of the euro might prove particularly pertinent for Mr. Zapatero and his government, which have come under pressure recently from the markets concerned Spain was about to join Greece in the economic quagmire.

We never ever thought we would see the day when such meetings would be announced by mainstream media. But such is the power of the Internet that there is probably no reason to try to surround the meeting with secrecy. The alternative media have long made a mockery of mainstream media silence, and presumably the cognitive dissonance was becoming overwhelming.

What is even more startling is the frank admission of the agenda. It occurs to us that the elite has the idea that more openness will somehow diffuse the anger rising in the West toward an increasingly dysfunctional economic and political system; yet perhaps they have miscalculated. Certainly, the agenda indicates the concerns facing the powers-that-be and tends to validate the Bell's presentation of the elite's dominant social themes, which have focused on this very subject matter.

The apparent discussion of war – framed as "the fight against terrorism, and the threats against Nato from Afghanistan, Iran and Russia" – indicates that military options are being considered. War is always a card to be played during tough economic times, especially in the modern age. And predictably, we see that Israel's security situation has now come up in a most deliberate and opportune way.

As we have argued in several articles now, the "Jewish problem," is being used once again to leverage power-elite promotions. We are well aware that the alternative press can present "Jews" as a monolithic and oppressive entity – a race of people intent on ruling the world. We see those born into Judaism for the most part as being manipulated – along with other cultures and nation-states – into a certain belief structure and political posture. Here's an apt passage from the diary of Theodor Herzl, Founder of Zionism in 1897:

It is essential that the sufferings of Jews … become worse … this will assist in realization of our plans … I have an excellent idea … I shall induce anti-semites to liquidate Jewish wealth … The anti-semites will assist us thereby in that they will strengthen the persecution and oppression of Jews. The anti-semites shall be our best friends.

And then there is this from the blog of Henry Makow Ph.D., the inventor of the Scruples board game and a Jew himself who has become radicalized by his opposition to the power elite and its agenda:

On Nov. 25, 1940, a boat carrying Jewish refugees from Nazi Europe, the "Patra," exploded and sank off the coast of Palestine killing 252 people. The Zionist "Haganah" claimed the passengers committed suicide to protest British refusal to let them land. Years later, it admitted that rather than let the passengers go to Mauritius it blew up the vessel. "Sometimes it is necessary to sacrifice the few in order to save the many," Moshe Sharett, a former Israeli Prime Minister said at memorial service in 1958.

In fact, during the Holocaust, Zionist policy was that Jewish life had no value unless it promoted the cause of the creation of Israel. "One goat in Israel is worth more than the whole Diaspora," Yitzhak Greenbaum, head of the Jewish Agency's "Rescue Committee" said. Rabbi Moshe Shonfeld accuses the Zionists of collaborating in the Nazi slaughter of European Jewry directly and indirectly.

The creation of the tiny theocratic state of Israel was not something that came about because of an upsurge in sentiment that such a state was needed. Even Dr. John Coleman, who has written a recent (fairly vituperative) history of the Rothschilds, explains that the Jewish state was an invention of the elites – especially the Rothschilds – not a movement that bubbled up from Jewish populations around the world. The book, written in 2007, certainly makes a case for the Rothschilds as the driving force in the political developments and wars of the 19th and 20th century, especially. The motivating idea – the goal – is one-world government, though Dr. Coleman does not spell out the linkage between the state of Israel itself and the larger issue of global governance.

Of course, Dr. Coleman's book provides us only one perspective. There are other perspectives regarding the power elite. In fact, late in his book, Dr. Coleman writes the following: "The "noble" families of England could be traced back to the Venetian and Genoese Black Nobility and the great banking families of those city-states. They were the masters of propaganda and have not lost their touch, which was their most successful weapon in the Boer War and the First and Second World Wars. Behind the government stood the banking families, of which the Rothschild banks were the most powerful and influential."

This corresponds to the ideas we have tried to purvey in the Bell – that the elite is at least something of an admixture, and that the "Jew as evil" is a promotion (a dominant social theme) designed to steer attention away from what's really going on at the top where the decisions are made. And while the Rothschild family may be dominant – more so today than ever – we have tried to stay away from too much of a delineation of the elite's make-up because the arguments can become ferocious and detract from the solution: education about free markets and their increased implementation.

There are many questions about these issues, including as we have suggested the real reason for Israel's existence, which is not in our opinion merely religious but has a good deal to do with geopolitics and the maintaining and increasing of political and military tension. One can even argue about the Rothschild's real religion, whether they are, say, Talmudic Jews or Sabatean Jews etc. And the use of the arcane symbolism within the walls of the Israeli Supreme Court – designed by Rothschild family – would seem to have little to do directly with the standard practices of the Jewish religion as we understand it.

Regardless, we have to wonder whether the Jewish people as a whole should be held responsible for the actions of their leaders – and certain Zionist followers. (Should "Americans," in aggregate be held responsible for the serial wars promoted by that nation's military industrial complex?) For such reasons, the Bell analyzes dominant social themes, which can be parsed and studied in detail. They are available and permeate Western society. We can also see how various elements of the sociopolitical order are used as a kind of fodder for these fear-based promotions. We can see these days, certainly, that Iran is obviously being considered as a target for the next war, and that such a war would be a serious conflict indeed.

After Thoughts

Will the Bilderbergers reject such a military conflict? This is perhaps the most important question of the hour – if not the new century – for those struggling to protect their wealth, their jobs and their families in an increasingly tumultuous time. We will continue to watch for an answer of course; we hope the answer will be in the negative. But we have been surprised before at what is apparently to be tolerated in a desperate effort to support increasingly fantastical visions.
