Dominant Social Theme: Soon the world will be a better place thanks to space aliens and stargates.
Free-Market Analysis: There is a new sub-dominant theme making the rounds on the Internet among the more extreme 'Net web sites. Being professional meme watchers, we investigated. The meme has to do with the discovery of a hidden stargate off the coast of Yemen and was first reported in January 2010. Apparently, so the reports tell us, a massive deployment of warships now circle the stargate, which is due to become active at any time. There are Youtube videos about the stargate (see links in above excerpt). Once the stargate activates, the world will become more peaceful, we are led to believe, and soldiers will lay down their weapons.
There is certainly a possibility in our view that these are elite promotions; in fact, we pointed out another one sometime ago involving a fictitious "Supriem Rockefeller" (who is supposedly being groomed to lead the world.) Certain alternative media news and information sites to a degree act like echo chambers, each one picking up and amplifying information presented in the last.
Do they have direct or indirect ties in some form to Western intelligence and disinformation? The idea would be to conflate aliens with free-market views, gold-backed currency and other perfectly legitimate freedom-oriented ideas in order to discredit them. There are plenty of legitimate concerns about the West (specifically America) opening up another front on the "war on terror" in such places as Iran or Pakistan or … Yemen. But the stargate Yemen theme proposes that the reason for America's upcoming military involvement in the area REALLY has to do with alien technologies. One hears the giggling of military COINTELPRO in the background.
Of course, such disinformation would be no small task. Millions could be devoted to these purposes. Two such websites that carry a good deal of such information are ProjectAvalon.org and WelcomeTheLight.com. Now we are not implying any direct or even indirect connections between ANY intelligence operations and these sites. However, they certainly do feature a good deal of "far out" information. WelcomeTheLight.com reports on the stargate, as follows:

The StarGate Aden off Yemen's Coast, IS THE FORCE which will deactivate all guns and weapons around the World. There will be a simultaneous World Peace. WelcomeTheLight.com is run by Tony who describes himself as a "warrior Indigo starseed" with a "strong warrior drive." He is assisted by, among others, Mark who is a retired naval commander. Then there is Project Avalon, run by Bill Ryan. Project Avalon has discussion threads on the Yemen stargate phenomenon and is the 65,000th largest site in the world. That means it gets millions of hits a month. (WelcomeTheLight is a smaller site).
A list of names involved with Project Avelon includes some of the most extreme spokespeople involved with "Net alternative media including reptilian-elite exposer David Icke and the litigious Jane Bürgermeister of anti-vaccine fame. Here is an excerpt from Bill Ryan's bio on the site:

Of course, there well may be nothing strange about a mathematical consultant to some of the largest military/industrial corporations in the world stepping down to found websites dedicated to human-space alien interactions. In fact, should any of these efforts bear fruit (in terms of welcoming the human race to the larger embrace of peaceful alien civilizations) then Bill Ryan will deserve great credit as a visionary. (He is a visionary anyway, as one can see him on at least one video interview discussing his former "ET girlfriend.")
On the Project Avalon website there is a good deal of information about the recent "UFO tour" by former-NORAD officials who swear that UFOs attacked nuclear devices under their watch. We have written about this group in the past, as it has assumed quite a high profile, having appeared at well-organized press conferences and received much mainstream media attention.
The WelcometheLight.com website is interesting because of the direct connections it makes between gold, free-market ideologies, space aliens and other paranormal phenomena. The connective device in this case is NESARA, apparently fictitious US legislation that may soon (supposedly) be implemented (along with alien visitations) to usher in New Age of peace and prosperity. Here is an excerpt from a long explanation of NESERA on the website:
NESARA brings PEACE, WORLDWIDE PROSPERITY and INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC BENEFITS. As the USA is the bastion of FREEDOM in this world, NESARA has to be implemented there along with Canada, UK & Australia. Behind the scenes right now it is hectic ….. and the Illuminati frantic. Alan Greenspan's 1966 article explained the benefits of a gold-backed currency and this will be welcomed in international financial markets, as business worldwide will receive a tremendous boost from NESARA. The Pentagon under Donald Rumsfeld launched a "war" against Internet alternative media and the larger freedom movement in the mid 2000s. There is no reason to believe it has ceased.
